Warning - Your Employees Do This When You’re Not Looking

Imagine being able to know exactly what their mind is focused on at any one time AND CHANGE IT!
That’d be real cool eh!
You’d be able to like Jedi mind trick and out trick them all day.
If you caught them thinking about a chicken Caesar wrap then you could wave your hand in front of their face and say:
“You do not want a wrap - you want to get on the phone and call your inactive clients”.
Just imagine that.
Geez - business would be simple.
I mean, I do have a few Jedi powers (and I’ll teach you some some time - they’re DANGEROUS in the wrong hands though and I don’t know if I can trust you yet) and can use them to change what people think and get them to do stuff.
But I’m Afraid We Live on Planet Earth, not the Death Star
And it’s time for a BIG Dose of reality.
In fact facing REALITY and accepting REALITY is a FUNDAMENTAL to you achieving what you want.
Most business owners are completely deluded.
They honestly believe that their employees have YOUR and YOUR business best interest at heart.
They truly believe that they want to come to work and they want to serve your clients.
Well I’ve got news for you BUDDY!
Codswallop…
In REALITY your business, your profits are way, way down the list of what they’re thinking about.
Here’s a rough guide to what they’re really thinking about:
- Will Brad call me tonight.
- Has Jenny posted her holiday pics on Facebook.
- Did Jimmy junior win his sports day.
- How on earth will we pay for our holiday.
- Did Janine really kill Goliath on Eastenders (sorry, don’t watch it so made up the names).
- I wonder if I can get home early today.
- What can I sell on eBay tonight.
- What shall I wear out on Saturday.
- Did he really do that with her?
- Why won’t my Dad accept my boyfriend.
- Shall we have chicken or pizza for dinner.
- How fast can I get this set of nails done without being told off.
And then somewhere down at about number 17 - YOUR PROFITS…
Now there’s a big problem here.
And here’s what it is.
Where are your profits on YOUR list?
NUMBER 1!!
Ah!
Problem!
Your profits are not that important to your staff.
And even worse in 99% of cases you will not be prepared to accept it.
“My staff are different.”
“My staff are really focused.”
“My staff are really well trained.”
“My staff have incentives to do well.”
Sorry…
It’s because of this inability to accept you are not that important to your staff that so many employee troubles happen…
The moment you ACCEPT that your profits are not top of the priority list (in fact they’re) way down the list then you can embrace it and make plans to DEAL WITH IT.

Doesn’t mean your employees are really good, nice and the best around. THAT has NOTHING to do with it…

How to Increase Sales With a Guarantee

If not, why not? I’ll guarantee you are making a BIG mistake if not.
Providing a rock solid guarantee to your customers is one of the easiest ways to overcome TWO innate characteristics we all posses - scepticism and inertia.
If someone is sceptical about what you say - that quite simply ‘they don’t believe you’! And on top of that - when we are about to make a purchase we all have an inbuilt resistance to actually pulling out our credit card or cash and confirming that purchase.
And this applies to EVERYTHING!
Whether it’s buying a new TV (with the whizz bang picture), buying a new camera, buying a bicycle, a house, a car, a HAIRCUT, or anything else.
This innate scepticism and inertia accounts for a BIG portion of the people that show interest in what you have but don’t actually buy it.
So how do you overcome these two little challenges?
Well…
One of the easiest weapons in your arsenal is a simple guarantee! Simply guarantee your customers that what you sell will do what it is supposed to.
And if not, they can bring it back.
MOST companies HAVE to do this ANYWAY!!!
BY LAW!!!
So… You might as well use it to your advantage and make it BLATANTLY obvious that you do guarantee what you do.
Not only will it help overcome scepticism and inertia but it will also give you a BIG advantage over your competition.
If you had two identical products lined up, one guaranteed, one not, which you would go for? In fact, if you had two identical products lined up, one slight more expensive than the other BUT guaranteed…
Which would you go for???
A guarantee WILL increase your sales - no question.
And if you are SCARED to offer one because of returns, consider this:
1. The boost in sales will outweigh returns in nearly ALL cases.
2. If it doesn’t - you’ve got a BIGGER problem which needs to be fixed. And I don’t CARE what you sell… Makes NO ODDS!
You CAN guarantee it somehow.

What do Susan Boyle and Your Business Have in Common?

Britain’s got talent that is.
I was rooting for Stavros Flatley - their performance had me doubled up on the lounge floor rolling around like a lunatic yet crying like a bay - absolute genius.
Who was your favourite?
Susan Boyle?
Diversity?
Both amazingly talented.
In fact, I applaud all the acts - it’s great to see us Brits strutting our stuff.
I can only wish I was that talented.
But in fact talent or not the path to real success is the same.
If you’re really talented yet don’t do any work you won’t get far.
If you’re not very talented yet really, really work at yourself on the right things - you can achieve anything.
However, hard work is overated.
Back breaking work just for the sake of it is just absurd.
I mean, farmers could cultivate thier fields with horse drawn wotsits but WHY when they have lovely big tractors?
We could all crawl around on our hands and knees picking up fluff from the carpet. But WHY when we have a hoover?
And it’s the same with the skills you need to grow your business.
You can take the long, hard, grafting road filled with pain and frustration - OR - you can learn the shortcuts from those who’ve treaded the path before you.

Online Marketing is a Waste of Time, Offline Marketing Doesn’t Work

70 odd years ago there were really only a handful of ways a small business owner could attract business.
- - Face to face
- - Newspapers
- - Magazines
- - Publicity
- - Signs
- - Events
- - Direct mail
And a few more.
Yet W.Clement Stone (if you don’t have his book entitles “The Success System that Never Fails” then get it) built a $1billion insurance business from scratch in the GREAT DEPRESSION!
Nowadays there are endless ways for you to attract business. All of those methods above, tons more offline methods and so many online methods you could bury yourself in them for a lifetime and still come up dazed and confused about what works and what doesn’t.
And that brings me onto yet another subscribers comment:

I’m in a good mood today so I won’t swear (unlike Didier Drogba after Barcelona booted Chelsea out the Champions League) - but what a LAME excuse for being LAZY.
And for this chap I bet they don’t work - because his mind is locked away in a dark room shielding him from trying ’stuff’ just in case he fails.
We ALL fail - it’s part of succeeding.
But this article isn’t about that.
This is article is about:
If W Clement Stone can build a billion dollar business from scratch in the Great Depression with nothing more than ‘blood sweat and tears’ - why in this day and age do so many struggle.
I mean, we have so many options for attracting clients and so many options for keeping in contact with them, adding value and increasing their life-time spend.
Here’s an insight into part of the problem.
We do have endless ways to attract clients online and offline.
BUT, because of the speed of change, the speed at which new things arrive MOST businesses have ended up with a BIG PILE of jumbled up marketing strategies and means for attracting and keeping clients that it’s not only nearly impossible to know what works and what doesn’t BUT they all FIGHT each other rather than work in SYNC.
OR else, they are so ’scared’ of trying something new (maybe even just getting online) that just like the chap above they block out all options but what they’re used and slowly but surely get surpassed by competition and deserted by customers who expect more…

Can These Four Words add 9% - 52%+ to Your Bottom Line?
Posted by: | CommentsYesterday my Mum and 3 of my brothers (I have 4) cruised over to Swanage for the day.
I was up at 5am, did a little reading and then got on with tidying the house, mowing the grass, getting the summer table and chairs out (re-assembling them - not my idea of fun) and getting the BBQ ready.
Once that was done, we hopped in the car, whipped open the roof and slid into the town to get some food.
That was at about 9:15am and as we parked in the town, Tracey and I looked at each other and said ‘Ah…Yeah…Shops don’t open ’till 10′…
Fortunately Subway has recently descended on Swanage and we’d yet to give it a try and it WAS open.
Having not tasted a delicious little morsel from there we decided to give it a try.
Sitting down in a fast-food restaurant and actually enjoying a meal is a distant memory for me.
Not because I don’t like the ’stuff’.
I love it… But my no longer taut waistline needs constant monitoring to keep it in check.
So as we sat their nibbling away on a shared foot-long stuffed full of Italian salami (yes, a weird breakfast choice - I know).
I got to thinking about how Subway had done so well.
They’re a franchise of course and the key to franchise success is a completely replicable model for everything from how the restaurant looks to how the food is prepared to how it is marketed, to WHAT THE STAFF SAY.
The reason McDonald’s is so much more successful than Burger King is not the food (few people willy deny a Whopper is ‘lovely stuff’ and a Big Mac is a bit ‘pappy’…).
Rather McDonald’s ’system’ is just much better.
How a company can take on a spotty teenager with raging hormones and little interest in anything but ‘head-banging’, ‘guitar hero’ and late nights in a dark, dank drinking establishment and turn them into a burger making demon that can pump out ‘Quarter Pounder With Cheese’s’ like our government can throw money at the economy and make each and every one exactly the same is simply astonishing.
And as I pondered McDonald’s I realised the lady who’d us served at Subway had made a mistake. Now, whether it was just she forgot or Subway don’t ask her to do this I don’t know (because I don’t have enough subs).
Here’s what I would have heard at McDonald’s:
“Would You Like That Super-Size”
Or something similar depending on what I’d ordered.
And keep in mind… It was about 9:20am, I’d been up since 5am and was gasping for a lovely bit a fresh coffee.
I didn’t order one because Tracey and I were too busy giggling about the ‘foot long’ joke and I was struggling to catch my breath.
BUT!!!
Had she just asked me “Would you like a drink with that?”
I would have said yes.
She would have taken another £1.50 or so and Subway would have increased their profits on my order by about 20%!
Not a lot on my little order.
But multiply that across the millions of foot longs these people sell and that and it’s big chunk of change.
And however you look at it - if all the outlets are not doing this then Subway are leaving a big boost in their profits on the table for someone else to grab.
Which is SILLY!
And you MUST do the same.
Between up-sell and cross-sell opportunities I bet there’s a additional 10% and maybe up to 50% in profits you could earn just by simply asking.
A hair salon could up-sell to the latest ’shampoo’. Could cross sell to make-up.
A car garage could up-sell to a valet or cross-sell to fancy audio/visual.
An online retailer to up-sell to FASTER shipping or cross-sell to a different product.
And on and on…
What you MUST realise is that the additional profit from an up-sell, cross-sell costs you NOTHING!!!
There is no additional cost in sale.
And EVEN better, when a customer has their wallet or purse out and are about to pay for something, this IS the time when their resistance to buying is LOWEST.
They’ve ready to give you more money…
Make SURE you and your staff ALWAYS, always, always offer an up-sell and or cross-sell…
Not doing so is ‘lazy’…
Doing so could be the MOST profitable thing you do all year…

How to Multiply Your Take Home Income Ten Fold

I can vividly remember waiting at the bus stop for my school bus to arrive while I day dreamed about the shiny new tennis racquet I so desperately wanted for my birthday.
Even now I can see myself stood there starring into ’space’ acting out an ‘ace’, playing a drop shot and slamming in a ’smash’.
Day after day for what felt like months I would wonder in excitement about the new racquet.
Yet having spoken to my Mum about the exact same topic we know I only started tennis lessons a few days before my birthday.
Time seems to take forever to pass when we’re young. I’m sure you have your own memories - I have many more.
But as we get older, things seem to speed up.
As soon as Christmas is past, New Year is over and in the blink of an eye the clock have gone forward and before we know it it’s summer time again.
Sadly, for most people it kind of just passes them by… Time, their lives, their potential. Whisked away second by second with little more than a passing ‘nod’.
But for forward thinking, success hungry business owners like you an me, TIME is our MOST important asset.
There is nothing MORE important in your journey to achieving all your goals than what you do with your time.
And not just business.
But time with your family, time doing things you love, time to relax, time to think.
And there are more people out to STEAL your time than you can shake a stick at!
Employees asking endless questions they could answer themselves, endless telephone call interruptions, checking email, opening the post, going shopping, family texting your phone and on and on.
Here’s something that might scare you…
It’s time to put REAL value on your time….
So, how much do you want to earn a year?
The figure isn’t important but this exercise is…
Now what we’re going to do is divide the amount of take home money you want each year by the number of working hours that are available…
I won’t go into how we calculate this but there are a LOT less than 365 working days in a year…
The average with holidays removed (and if you want a lot of holidays you’d better take some more hours out) is 241 days.
If we assume just a 7 hour day then you have a very generous 1,687.
So… How much are you really worth?
Really?
If your baseline is half a million pounds a year then every single hour you work needs to be worth £296…
EVERY single hour.
That mean everytime your staff interrupt you for just 15 minutes it’s costing you £74…
Everytime you spend an hour away from your business getting the dinner it’s costing you £296.
This may seem a harsh way to look at things.
BUT, unless YOU put a REAL value on YOUR time, what YOU are worth then I can assure you on ONE very simple thing.
NOBODY and I mean NOBODY else will either.
So do this exercise now.
Decide how much you think you are worth, calculate what you need to earn every working hour and then guess what.
Make SURE you ONLY spend your time on things that help you reach that target.
This one exercise alone can CATAPULT you to success you’ve olny dreamed of…

How to Overcome Fear and Trigger Your Automatic Success System

It’s 5:55am (or at least it was when I started writing this) and I’m outside my beach hut in Swanage, overlooking the bay, having a little daydream.
I’ve come to think about the single biggest roadblock every business owner needs to face. FEAR.
Why?
Well, you simply cannot be successful if every time you come to the point of taking important actions you are frozen, rock solid with fear.
There are no two ways about it.
You will never succeed if most of the time you are scared witless.
That’s why I’m offering to give you actions you can take once a month to remove fear (the biggest obstacle to success) - forever.
Happily, if you can overcome fear, your success is almost automatic. It seems like the easiest thing in the world.
The two big bad fears you need to keep your eye on are:
1. Fear of success
2. Fear of failure
Good news!
You can overcome both these roadblocks to your success.
Most people don’t realise just how powerful fear of success actually is. For many it’s even more powerful than fear of failure.
Fear of success stems from negative self-image.
“Henry - stop daydreaming - don’t set your sights too high.”
“There’s no way you’ll make it.”
“Henry - you are the worst salesman we’ve ever had - you’re fired.”
In my life my parents were very supportive yet they wanted me to follow a pre-defined path. School, college, university, steady job. Without realising it, they were actually hurting me.
While at the age of 10 I would sit for hours calculating how much it would cost me to buy and own a Ferrari Testarossa right down to the cost of tyres and wiper blades - they were increasing my fears by simply trying to protect me from risk and uncertainty.
My dream was that I would never have to get up every day at 6am, travel for hours to a job I hated and then return at 8pm and be so knackered I wouldn’t be able to interact with my family. Instead, I’d be spend all day doing the things I loved while my finances remained rock solid.
But, they offered me a strong message that almost sabotaged my dreams and plans of success.
My parents responded to my stated goals by saying, “Don’t set your sights too high.”
“Instead you should get a good job, settle down, buy a house and have a family,” they said.
Of course, the last thing I wanted was to follow the ‘normal’ path. Nothing wrong with the ‘normal’ path for someone else. But it could never be for me.
However, my parents often repeated message had a major effect on me nevertheless.
Whenever I stumbled and had inevitable setbacks, the negative self-talk kicked in.
It was as though I played the same CD in my head over and over.
I’d say to myself, “Maybe everybody else is right and your parents are right. What is a little, shy, reclusive guy like me, with no special talents, with no money or contacts, doing trying to buck the ‘norm’ and achieve my dreams?”
But then I’d switch my train of thought and play a new CD that said, “Suppose everybody else and my parents are wrong - look, I’m no less worthy of achieving my goals than Richard Branson, Bill Gates or anyone for that matter!”
And thank the Lord they were!
I found a new self-talk which helped me. To enforce a positive self image I’d sit back 3 or 4 times a day (and still do), close my eyes and visualize myself in the exact successful positions I wanted.
And not just ‘business type’ things.
In my teens and early twenties I was a huge motorcycle fan (not anymore, dangerous things… It doesn’t hurt as much falling off a jetski…). At the time the world’s fastest production road bike was a Yamaha R1. I used to visualise hurtling down country lanes in Hampshire overtaking Ferraris, Porsches and leaving everything in the dust. At the age of 24 I picked up a brand new R1.
Bored with the R1 I began visualising owning a brand new Porsche cabriolet in jet black with red leather interior. I’d visualise hot sunny days and trips down to Swanage to the beach, wind in my hair the sound of the straight six echoing as I passed under bridges. At the age of 27 I picked up my first brand new Porsche.
About 18 months ago I decided to start coaching my younger brother (he’s in a wheelchair) on how he could reach the £400,000 he needs a year to live the independent life he wants. He wanted to write a book and he wanted a continuing income (he was only 16 then and had absolutely no knowledge of how to write or sell a book). I began to run ‘movies in my mind’ of him with his completed book, critical accliam and him sat at BBC promoting his book. About six weeks ago there he was sat talking live on the BBC for 30 minutes about his book (his book is entitled “How to Get the Perfect Care Package” and is the UKs first guide to navigating the social care system for people with disabilities and/or illness.)

I’ll stop there because some of my examples are truly unbelievable.
The lesson?
The best way I found to overcome fear of success is through visualizing what I wanted to happen in my life. This made it real for me.
And then taking the action necessary to bring the result into reality.
Through my imagination alone, I could see myself achieving what my critics said I could not.
To make your dreams real, imagine what achieving them would make you feel. Add to your imagination as many details of your success as possible. You’ll be thrilled to start seeing it all actually happen in your life.
Fear of success becomes impotent once you can actively visualize the outcome you want that others say can’t be done. And, of course, taking the required actions.
While fear of success can stop you cold, fear of failure is to most aspiring people even more powerful.
To begin to overcome fear of failure let’s look at it realistically.
First off… Statistics tell us most things I attempt in business will not succeed. Nor will they for you either.
Every successful person I’ve studied has experienced far more failures than successes (in took Thomas Edison 10,000 odd tries to make the lightbulb…).
Therefore a high failure rate for any achiever is as normal and predictable as any principle about nature or the universe. To succeed in a big way you simply must accept failures as part of your journey to success. Don’t worry about them, be PLEASED about them.
Would you be willing to try again and again if you knew that as long as you didn’t stop you WOULD ‘hit the big time’? If so, I can assure you of this.
You are unstoppable!
You will absolutely become a huge winner in life!
I have a number of favourite failure/success mentors. But my biggest insights have some from exposure to the biographies of famous entrepreneurs that I found in books.
The most brilliant entrepreneurs of the 20th century each had several failures before they finally succeeded.
While I’ve yet to experience and savour bankruptcy (and it wouldn’t worry me if I did because I know I can ‘do it all again’ and better), I’ve had huge chunks of regular business disappear ‘overnight’ wiping me back to zero on 3 occasions. And I learned far more from those than all my successes combined!
The most liberating thing to me about actually experiencing failure is this.
Nothing bad actually happens!
The sun rises and sets each day. Creditors who supplied you before often want to do business with you again. Many will want to extend credit.
Customers who buy from you don’t care about your previous setback as long as you satisfy their wants in your new business.
